Samuel “Skip” E. Vichness, Senior Partner of Quality Camping Properties and Managing Partner of GreyPine LLC, received the American Jewish Distinguished Service Award from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) at Graduation in New York on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York, 10 East 66th Street, New York City.
Rabbi David Ellenson, HUC-JIR President, stated, “We are privileged to honor the achievement of Skip Vichness, a distinguished Jewish communal leader who has devoted his energies to advance Jewish camping as a determining factor in strengthening Jewish identity formation.”
Vichness received the B.A. from Randolph Macon College (1969), and the Ph.D. from Florida State University (1975). He previously served as Director of Harbor Hills Day Camp (1983-2004) and Associate Director of Camp Raman in the Berkshires (1979-83).
Dr. Vichness is the Chair of the Foundation for Jewish Camp and Past Chair of the National Ramah Commission. He is a member of the New York Advisory Board of Facing History, Facing Ourselves, past President of Solomon Schechter of Essex and Union Counties, Founding Chair of the Ben Appelbaum Foundation, past President of the American Camp Association – New York Section, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Randolph Macon College.
