Rabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, awarded Deena Bloomstone, RJE, with the Doctor of Jewish Religious Education at Graduation Ceremonies in New York on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York. Bloomstone was honored for 25 years of scholarly distinction as an alumna of HUC-JIR.
Deena Bloomstone, RJE, is Director of Congregational Learning at Temple Shir Tikva. Deena received her B.A. in Educational Psychology from McGill University and her Master of Arts in Jewish Education from the Rhea Hirsch School of Education at HUC-JIR. Deena has directed synagogue education programming for 17 years. She was Director of Education at Temple Beth Avodah in Newton for 3 years as well as Director of Education at Temple Beth-El in San Antonio, Texas for 13 years.
Deena has authored several teacher guides for Torah Aura Productions and edited their electronic weekly teacher’s bulletin. She is an active member of the National Association of Temple Educators, was a member of the Board of Directors of NATE and is the past president of the Boston Area of Reform Temple Educators.
