MUSEUM INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE!

The Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion Museum in New York is seeking Museum Interns who will assist in the development of exhibitions.

The Institution

The HUC-JIR Museum is recognized as a leading center for the presentation of works by contemporary artists exploring Jewish identity and experience.  Its exhibitions and cultural programs illuminate Jewish history and contemporary creativity and foster interfaith and multiethnic understanding.  The Museum encourages contemporary artists of all faiths to explore Jewish themes in their work, serves as an experimental laboratory for research in new and progressive theories of museum education, and provides a forum to explore the role of the arts as an expression of spirituality. 

Recent exhibitions have included:

  • Seminal shows for emerging artists
  • landmark exhibitions establishing new directions for contemporary ritual
  • group shows reflecting new interpretations of Biblical text
  • cutting-edge exhibitions illuminating the Holocaust and Jewish history
  • career surveys of celebrated artists
  • exhibitions of significant private collections advancing the definition of Jewish art in the 21st century

In the heart of the New York art world, the Museum is located at the intersection of Greenwich Village, SoHo, and NoHo, and in the midst of New York University!

 

Job Description

HUC-JIR Museum internships offer extensive hands-on experience working closely with curators, educators, and communications staff. Museum Interns will have the opportunity to develop skills and acquire significant museum experience, including:

  • interaction with contemporary artists
  • studio visits
  • hands-on exhibit design and installation
  • fine arts research
  • conservation skills
  • exhibition catalogue production
  • object registration
  • marketing and public relations
