Rabbi Shena Potter has been appointed Regional Director of Admissions and Recruitment on the Cincinnati campus of HUC-JIR effective July 2007. In this role she will join the College-Institute's national admissions team, which recruits students for all of HUC-JIR's academic programs. During the 2006-07 academic year, Shena will work with us on a part-time basis, involving herself in all facets of admissions and recruitment - youth programs, admissions committee, direct student recruitment, and the like.
Shena is currently the Associate Rabbi of Temple Sinai in Washington, DC, where she will remain through May 2007. In addition to her general pulpit and pastoral responsibilities, Rabbi Potter has overseen the youth program of the 1,150 family congregation during her three years at Temple Sinai. Before joining Temple Sinai, she was the Assistant Director and Rabbi of the University of Michigan Hillel in Ann Arbor.
Rabbi Potter was ordained on HUC-JIR's Cincinnati campus in 2001. While studying at HUC-JIR, she served as student rabbi for Temple B'nai Moshe in LaSalle, Illinois and Temple Ohr Shalom in Grand Junction, Colorado, and as a Wexner Summer Intern at the Hillel of New York University. She also served Temple Sholom of Cincinnati as the youth and college advisor and as a religious school teacher. Following her graduation from college, she was selected as a Jewish Campus Service Corps Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
Rabbi Potter grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Spanish Language. She and her husband Brian Jaffee are looking forward to returning to her hometown of Cincinnati and to the HUC-JIR community.
