Genevieve shares her long, personal journey of converting to Judaism and discusses her efforts to imbue her children with a strong Jewish identity. She explains how she has prioritized Hebrew heritage words, while still infusing elements of her diverse cultural background.

Genevieve Okada Goldstone was born in LA, but grew up in San Diego. Her Portuguese mother was from Hawaii and her father is from Guam and is mixed Guamanian/Chamorro and Japanese. She has a BA from Berkeley and an MA in the Psychology of Parenthood from NYU where she studied children’s social emotional development in NYC public schools. She almost completed her PhD in Psychological Anthropology at UCSD and conducted fieldwork in LA among Jewish converts of color across denominations. Genevieve’s current work centers on activism for children in public schools in San Diego. She is married with two children.
