Michelle Slocum Promoted to Assistant Vice President, Finance; Controller

Michelle SlocumMichelle Slocum, HUC-JIR Controller, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Finance and Controller, as of July 1, 2021. A business partner to the leadership and management and a resource in collaboration and decision making, she supervises and manages the Finance & Accounting team, student billing, and financial aid. She also leads the annual audit and the budget and monthly close process while ensuring internal control and distribution of financial information. She participates in various Board Committee meetings and supports various teams through positive engagement and financial strategic direction.

Amy Goldberg, HUC Chief Financial Officer, stated, “In addition to Michelle’s extensive expertise in finance, accounting, and fiscal responsibility, her management style and partnership with leaders across the College exemplify the core values of HUC.  Her dedication to our mission and commitment to securing our financial sustainability are essential to advancing HUC’s strategic goals.  Michelle is a valued member of the HUC team and I am excited to continue working with her as her role and responsibilities at the College continue to expand.”

Prior to joining HUC-JIR in June 2015, she served as Director of Finance and Human Resources at Joy Outdoor Education Center (Camp Joy) for almost 13 years, previously worked for several nonprofits, and has experience in finance, administration, hospitality, and construction. She has an Associate’s Degree in Marketing from Central Piedmont Community College, a Bachelors in Accounting from Indiana Wesleyan University, and a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke University.  She has also served as Treasurer and Board Member for the various organizations and volunteered for local Chambers and Arts Councils.
