Edward Septimus Joins the Board of Governors

Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion is proud to announce that Dr. Edward J. Septimus was elected to its Board of Governors on October 31, 2023.

Dr. Septimus holds faculty positions as Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine; Senior Lecturer, Department of Population Medicine Harvard Medical School; and Adjunct Professor of Medicine Houston Methodist Research Institute/Weill Cornell. He was the first recipient of the IDSA Watanakunakorn Clinician Award, was awarded the John S Dunn Sr. Outstanding Teacher Award and has published more than 140 articles and chapters.

Dr. Septimus served as president of Congregation Emanu El in Houston and served on the board of the Florence Melton School for Adult Jewish Learning. He currently serves as Chair of the Central Region Board of Advisors for HUC-JIR and received the College-Institute’s President’s Gold Medallion Award in 2022.

Dr. Septimus received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1972 and went on to complete his postgraduate training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is board certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases.
