Sivan Zakai, Ph.D., Sara S. Lee Professor of Jewish Education, wrote “Chapter 1: Learning the Language of Zionism” in an edited volume of, “Teaching and Learning in Jewish Day Schools (Edited by: Jonathan B. Krasner, Jon A. Levisohn, and Sharon Avni).” This volume is focused on teaching and learning, and seeks to better understand how day schools are educating diverse Jewish youth in a variety of content areas. Sivan Zakai’s chapter investigates the questions: what DO day school students know about Zionism? And how SHOULD they be taught to participate in communal conversations about Zionism in an increasingly polarized political climate?
