2025-2026 Ellenson Conferences

Following the success of A Conference in Memory of David Ellenson: Assessing His Impact, Advancing His Legacy in September 2025, Hebrew Union College’s Jerusalem campus will host a conference in honor of David Ellenson on July 20, 2026.

The September 2025 conference in New York explored the topics of Halakhah, Jewish Intellectual History, Jewish Thought, Jewish Intellectual History, and Liturgy/Siddur. Building on this foundation, the Jerusalem conference will consider David’s legacy and influence in the areas of Jewish Law, Modern Jewish Thought, Responses to the Book, and Israel-Diaspora at a Time of Crisis.

David’s profound commitment to the bonds of scholarship, solidarity and destiny have inspired scholars globally. In Jerusalem, we will further explore his impact as we hear from leading academics, friends, colleagues, and students.

The conference in Jerusalem will be co-chaired by Alyssa M. Gray, J.D., Ph.D. (Hebrew Union College), Rabbi Michael Marmur, Ph.D. (Hebrew Union College), and David N. Myers (UCLA).

We look forward to gathering in Jerusalem this summer for a meaningful conference, holding both the importance of coming together and the understanding that plans may need to remain flexible as circumstances in the region evolve.

More details will be forthcoming.
