The annual Yiddish New York (YNY) Arts Exhibition, a special highlight of the annual YNY Festival, will present the works of dozens of artists, curated by Tine Kindermann and Deborah Ugoretz, at the Heller Museum at HUC-JIR/New York. Entitled “HOPE/LESS,” the show explores the thin line between hope and hopelessness, and asks how creative artists gain inspiration from both.
Despite the disillusionment and despair caused by the contemporary political, social, and survival woes of the world, there is always hope — present in the longing for the Messiah; in the legend of the 36 Tzadikim Nistarim, the righteous people who keep the world in balance; and in the concept of Tikkun Olam, the mandate to heal the world. The artists’ works present the power of creativity to respond, reflect, and heal.
