“Jewish Caroling”: The Music of Carole King, Carole Bayer Sager and Carolyn Leigh
With Rabbi Deborah Zecher '82 and Tracy Stark
When most people hear the term “Jewish Caroling,” their first thoughts turn to the many Christmas carols written by Jews. Rabbi Deborah Zecher’s “Jewish Caroling” cabaret has a very different focus; this show celebrates the work of Carole King, Carole Bayer Sager, and Carolyn Leigh, extraordinary songwriters who are all Jewish women, sharing (more or less) the same first name. Carole King’s Tapestry celebrated the 50th anniversary of its release in 2021 and the songs are as beloved today as they were 50+ years ago. Carole Bayer Sager is renowned for having collaborated with just about everyone in show business, and with her witty and intelligent lyrics, Carolyn Leigh has given us some great American standards like “When in Rome” and “Young At Heart.” Rabbi Zecher weaves together the songs and lives of these iconic songwriters in a show that broadwayworld.com called “divine.”
