Speakers: Karen E. H. Skinazi, Professor of Modern Jewish Literature and Culture and Director of the Louchheim School for Judaic Studies

Lamm Jewish Library of Australia & Monash University’s Australian Centre for Jewish Civilization are hosting Professor Karen E. H. Skinazi, who will be speaking about her research on Jews who were expelled from Egypt during the Suez Crisis. Drawing from national, local, and Jewish archives, as well as oral testimony, she will discuss who they were; how they were helped by Jewish leadership and individual Jews; what their lives were like in the hostels where they were put up; and how they—and their children—integrated into and impacted largely European-heritage Jewish communities in Britain, as well as Australia.
