  • Dr. Alyssa Gray, Emily S. and Rabbi Bernard H. Mehlman Chair in Rabbinics; Professor of Codes and Responsa Literature
    • God: A Talmudic Biography.” We encounter God as presence and character in the Hebrew Bible, especially during Torah and Haftarah reading, and in Torah study sessions. But God also appears at times as a character in the Talmud, and we’ll explore aspects of God’s personality (as it were) and actions in this beloved and central Jewish religious literature.
  • Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller, Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman Professor of Liturgy, Worship and Ritual and Professor of Cantorial Arts
    • Sacred Community.” God instructs the Israelites: “I will make of you a holy people, a “kehilah kedosha.” What constitutes a sacred community from a Jewish perspective? What are the qualities that distinguish such a community? Through music, poetry and liturgy we will explore what our tradition envisions to be the essence of a holy congregation.
