Student Support

Women reading a bookHUC-JIR graduates transmit Judaism’s tradition, values, and culture in synagogues, schools, boardrooms, and communities across the globe, but 99% of our students require financial assistance to complete their studies. Scholarships enable our students to receive a world-class education and turn their love of Judaism into a career choice.

With the support of our alumni and other generous members of the College-Institute community, HUC-JIR invests over $5 million in student support each year through a variety of endowed and immediate use funds. Help us attract the best and brightest students to embrace their callings by supporting one of these critical scholarship funds today.

Rabbi Aaron D. Panken, z”l Memorial Campaign

Panken HeadshotSince the tragic loss of our friend, teacher, leader, and president, Rabbi Aaron Panken, z”l, hundreds of members of our community whose lives he touched and whose callings he inspired, reached out with a desire to ensure his remarkable example lives on. His colleagues at HUC-JIR have been working with his beloved wife and partner, Lisa Messinger, and their family to honor his profound impact on the institution, its students, and the Reform Movement. HUC-JIR New York Soup Kitchen

People smiling in the New York Soup KitchenEvery Monday for over 30 years, the HUC-JIR Soup Kitchen has served warm nutritious meals to our homeless and hungry neighbors in the Washington Square area. The student-run Soup Kitchen exemplifies the central role that social justice plays in the life of the College-Institute. It is a tangible way that we fulfill Isaiah’s prophetic call to share our bread with the hungry and bring the homeless into our house. Read more about the Soup Kitchen
