Rabbi Howard M. Markose, Ph.D., was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He received his B.A. from the University of Minnesota, having majored in Hebrew and Psychology. He continued his studies in New York City at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, from which he received a M.A.H.L. degree and Rabbinical Ordination in 1984. Howard received his Ph.D. in Bible from Bar Ilan University in 2015.  His topic was Metaphor in the Book of Numbers. He and his wife, Dr. Judith Markose, spent 10 years in Toronto, Canada, where he served as a congregational rabbi. They came to Israel on aliyah in 1994 at which time Howard served as rabbi in a Masorti/Conservative congregation in Jerusalem. He later took on the position of Director of Education for Young Judaea Year Course. Howard has been teaching Bible and Biblical Hebrew Grammar at the Pardes Institute for Jewish Studies for the past ten years and is currently an instructor of the same subjects at the Year-in-Israel program at HUC-JIR/Jerusalem. 

Judy and Howard have three sons: Noam (married to Ariel), Eran, and Leor (married to Keren), and a daughter, Elina. They are blessed with four grandchildren as well. They have lived in Jerusalem for the last 28 years.
