Rabbi Kleinman has served at HUC-JIR since 2012 and recently was appointed Senior Advisor to the President. Prior to that he was the College’s Chief Engagement Officer, responsible for the College-Institute’s relationships with its alumni, donors, institutional partners, and others. During this time, he also directed the College-Institute’s Advancement Services department. Before coming to HUC-JIR, he was the Chief Program Officer of the Union for Reform Judaism. In that capacity, Rabbi Kleinman was responsible for coordinating the Union’s presence in the global and North American arenas including overseeing both the program and message of the Union. He was responsible for the Biennial Conventions of the Union that brought together more than 6,000 synagogue volunteer leaders and professionals for 5 days of worship, music, and study. Rabbi Kleinman also served as the executive editor of Reform Judaism magazine for nearly a decade.

Rabbi Kleinman received his M.P.S.A from DePaul University, his M.A.H.L. and rabbinical ordination from HUC-JIR, and his M.Ed. from Xavier University. Before coming to New York, Rabbi Kleinman was the Regional Director for the Northeast Lakes Council/Detroit Federation of the Union. Prior to his work at the Union for Reform Judaism, Rabbi Kleinman served as a rabbi at Temple Sholom of Chicago.
