School of Education Alumni Association

Main Content

Synagogues, Summer Camps, Federations, Hillels, JCCs, day schools, city-wide, regional, national, and international organizations...wherever Jewish education is happening you will find Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion School of Education alumni.

Our newly-unified Alumni Association, representing all the education programs offered at HUC-JIR, is committed to building and developing leaders to serve and support our colleagues and friends who work in Jewish organizations around the world.

You are invited to learn more about the work we do, stay connected, and get involved as we support our alumni, the SOE, and HUC-JIR.

The mission of the School of Education Alumni Association (SOEAA) is to create a community among the graduates of the SOE that addresses the on-going needs of alumni, the SOE, and HUC-JIR.

The SOEAA focuses its efforts on the pillars of kehillah (building community), kavod (honoring our alumni), limud (providing opportunities for study and professional learning), t’micha (providing financial support to the College-Institute), and l’dor vador (engaging the next generation).

To achieve these goals, the SOEAA communicates regularly with the HUC-JIR community and collaborates with the SOE and its faculty, HUC-JIR administration, and the Alumni Leadership Council.

In implementing our mission, our pillars serve as focused working groups:

Kehillah (Building Community)

The Alumni Association offers opportunities for:

    • Networking and an infrastructure of collegiality, connecting SOE alumni to one another, and keeping them apprised of what is going on in the lives of our alumni and at HUC-JIR.
    • SOE alumni to connect with the larger community of HUC-JIR alumni.

Kavod (Honoring Our Alumni)

The Alumni Association promotes the achievements, reputation, and stature of the SOE and its alumni within the alumni community, the HUC-JIR community, the Reform Movement, the field of Jewish education, and the larger Jewish community and the general public.

Limud (Providing Opportunities for Study and Professional Learning)

The Alumni Association provides:

    • Continuing education and professional learning focused on the unique needs of SOE alumni building on the foundation of our HUC-JIR education.
    • Opportunities for alumni to learn from SOE faculty, HUC-JIR faculty, and fellow SOE alumni.

T’micha (Financial Support)

The Alumni Association generates:

    • Funds for SOE needs in particular and for HUC-JIR needs generally.
    • Support among alumni in HUC-JIR development efforts.

L'dor Vador (Cultivating the Next Generation)

The Alumni Association strives to:

    • Identify and inspire individuals to enter the field of Jewish education and to seek graduate degrees at the SOE.
    • Identify and inspire individuals to enroll in HUC-JIR programs.
    • Build active connections with current students to engage them with the alumni community.
