The Jewish leader – rabbi, cantor, educator, nonprofit management professional, or scholar – whom you admire and who strengthens our Reform Jewish communities and the larger world, was educated at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

From earliest biblical times until today, the chain of Jewish learning and teaching – shalshelet haKabbalah – has kept Judaism’s traditions alive.  Here, you can become a link in that chain, as a Jewish leader who will make a difference in our world.

At HUC-JIR, four thousand years of heritage and culture come alive in dynamic engagement with contemporary life and progressive thought.  You can explore your understanding of Jewish life with a world-class faculty, an unsurpassed collection of library and archival resources, and diverse students committed to working together in a sacred community.  From teaching to research, from worship to tikkun haOlam, this is an institution centered on the growth and development of exceptional Jewish leaders for today and tomorrow.

Our students apply their classroom text study, spiritual growth, social responsibility initiatives, and professional development field work to building and transforming communities through internships in more than 350 congregations, schools, and communal agencies each year.

With nearly 900 congregations and 1.5 million Reform Jews in North America and many thousands of Progressive Jews around the globe, HUC-JIR’s alumni serve the largest and most varied global Jewish Movement today.  The Jewish renaissance we are enjoying today means that our graduates have access to more opportunities for leadership than ever before.

Become a leader who will transmit the wisdom, values, and responsibilities of our tradition and apply the enlightened spirit of the Reform Movement to the critical issues of our times. We welcome you to HUC-JIR and to a professional and personal journey that will sustain your mind, spirit, and heart.
