Pluralistic Jewish Education

In 2007, HUC-JIR/Jerusalem created a leadership program in Pluralistic Jewish Education that includes a Master’s degree from the Hebrew University. Called Rikma, the Hebrew word for tapestry, the program grew out of the shared conviction that pluralism is critical to building community within Israel’s religious, socioeconomic and ethnic diversity, and throughout the global Jewish Diaspora.

Our Students

Rikma students are visionary and innovative leaders, entrepreneurs, and researchers who integrate and apply Jewish pluralism in diverse educational contexts.

Rikma increases participants’ capacities by:

  • Exploring Jewish and Israeli culture from multiple perspectives.
  • Embracing the diversity of Israeli society, in Jewish and non-Jewish settings, while promoting greater tolerance and coexistence in education.

Our Partners

Rikma is supported by the Jewish Agency for Israel and by the Department of Jewish and Israeli Culture in the Israel Ministry of Education. Students who successfully complete the program receive an M.A. in Education from Hebrew University. This program is supported in part by a generous grant from the Azrieli Foundation.

This program is conducted in Hebrew. See the Hebrew language page.
