Your Year in Israel

Program of Studies

RABBINICAL AND MAJE STUDENTS

Students are expected to study a minimum of 20 hours of classroom study, divided between core courses (14 hours) and electives (6 hours minimum). In addition, a weekly day long seminar is an integral part of the curriculum.

I CORE COURSES

Modern Hebrew8 hours
Classical Grammar2 hours
Bible I (Introduction)2 hours
Liturgy2 hours

II ELECTIVES

Students are required to select at least one course (2 hours) in each of the following areas of study:
Bible II
Land and People of Israel
Rabbinic Literature

III SEMINAR DAY

Day-long course conducted throughout the year on Wednesdays from 8.30am until about 4.00pm, with some days being a few hours longer.

V OPTIONAL ELECTIVES

Students are also encouraged to participate in a range of additional activities and learning opportunities including:

CANTORIAL STUDENTS

Students are expected to study a minimum 25 hours of classroom study, divided between core courses (14 hours) and Professional Courses (11 hours). In addition, a weekly day long seminar is an integral part of the Program of Studies.

II PROFESSIONAL COURSES

Cantillation of the Bible2 hours
Introduction to the Cantorial Modes1 hour
Traditional Chants of the Daily Services1 hour

Israeli Art Music1 hour
Music Theory and Sight-Singing2 hours
Coaching1 hour
Cantorial Workshops1 hour

III SEMINAR DAY

This day-long course will be conducted on a weekly basis throughout the year on Wednesdays, from 8.30am until about 4.00pm, with some days being a few hours longer.
