In its ongoing quest to offer its users unique perspectives on the multicultural ethos at the heart of the modern Jewish experience, the Klau Library, Cincinnati, actively seeks out Jewish cookbooks from around the world. One recent acquisition is this cookbook, published by the Glaswegian branch of the Youth Aliyah in support of orphans in the new state of Israel, offers a farraginous olla podrida, a veritable smorgesbord, of both culinary staples and more exotic fare in easily made recipes.
We note with favor the delicious contiguity of a Youth Aliyah group in Scotland offering a recipe (below) for Chili con carne. Or indeed the immediately preceding recipe for “Kopz” — a Jewish Scotch egg. Appétit tov! Dr. Jordan Finken, Judaica Librarian.
