The Central Conference of American Rabbis and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion invite you to attend “The Sacred Calling: Then and Now - Celebrating Four Decades of Women in the Rabbinate” on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at HUC-JIR in New York (One West Fourth Street). The event is open to the public and will be preceded by a service at 10:00 am.
The legendary Rabbi Sally J. Priesand, first woman rabbi in the United States, in a special appearance at HUC-JIR, will discuss her journey to the rabbinate. Rabbi Priesand will be joined by The Sacred Calling co-editor, Rabbi Rebecca Einstein Schorr, and contributor, Rabbi Leah Berkowitz. Representing different decades of ordination, the panelists will discuss the unique history of women in the rabbinate and its impact on all aspects of Jewish life.
Moderating the conversation and the Q&A with the audience will be the Dean of HUC-JIR/New York, Rabbi David Adelson. Opening remarks from HUC-JIR President, Rabbi Aaron Panken, and CCAR Press Publisher, Rabbi Hara Person.
