 The Academic Coalition for Jewish Bioethics Conference: "Creation, Procreation, and the New Genetics" - September 10-11, 2006 in New York The Academic Coalition for Jewish Bioethics (ACJB) encourages you to attend its Third Annual Conference "Creation, Procreation, and the New Genetics" to be held in New York City September 10-11, 2006. HUC-JIR is a consponsor of the ACJB and this conference has been organized with the support of HUC-JIR's Kalsman Institute on Judaism and Health. The conference will explore Jewish ethical questions in genetics, embryology, stem cell research, cloning, genetic screening, and the use of genetic data. The conference will include invited speakers and peer-reviewed papers, a session on ethics in film, and case-based breakout groups. The Sunday conference sessions will be geared to the general professional in medicine, religion, ethics, law, clinical care, chaplaincy, and other related fields. The Sunday evening and Monday morning sessions will focus on questions of method and theories and decision-making from a Jewish perspective. Speakers include Harry Ostrer, Saul Berman, Laurie Zoloth, Hava Tirosh-Samuelson, Rayna Rapp, Robert Pollack, Adrienne Asch, Lester Friedman, Alan Astrow, Avram Reisner, David Teutsch, Mark Washofsky, and Paul Root Wolpe. The Academic Coalition for Jewish Bioethics was founded to bring a pluralistic perspective to Jewish discourse on bioethics, through periodic conferences and important publications about key issues in the field. The Academic Coalition for Jewish Bioethics seeks to engage the Jewish community in considering biomedical decisions. While recognizing that any coherent Jewish bioethics rests on the legacy of our inherited norms, values, and experience, the Coalition advocates the development of a variety of methodologies that bring clarity and authenticity to difficult life choices. The ACJB strives to broaden and deepen biomedical conversation in Jewish life and to create models of cooperation across the spectrum of Jewish practice.
