 H. Jerome Lerner Elected Vice Chair of Board of Governors of HUC-JIR The Board of Governors of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) has elected H. Jerome Lerner to serve as Vice Chair, as of January 1, 2007. Lerner has been a longstanding member of the Board of Governors, where he serves as Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee on Financial Sustainability, Chair of the Investment Committee, Chair of the Finance Committee's sub-committee responsible for pension and benefits for the institution, and a member of the Strategic Planning Implementation Committee. He served as Co-Chair of HUC-JIR's Cincinnati Board of Overseers from 1997 to 2000. "Jerry Lerner's distinguished business and communal leadership is a source of guidance and support for our strategic planning process, as we effect systemic change fostering programmatic development, fiscal realignment, and administrative improvements," stated Rabbi David Ellenson, HUC-JIR President. He is the owner of HJL Enterprises, a management consulting services company located in Cincinnati, Ohio, that he founded in 1985. His business career spans more than forty years: Director of Trade Development (1961-1963) at DuBois Chemicals, Inc. (now part of Johnson Diversity); Executive Vice President of Texo Corp. (1963-1985); President of Straus Keilson Company (1971-1986); Chairman of Metropolitan Distribution (1986-1988); and Chairman of Crane Connectors in Cincinnati (1985-2004). Lerner's leadership in the local community has encompassed service on the company boards of Touchstone Family of Funds, Cincinnati and BASCO Shower Enclosures in Mason, Ohio. His civic activities have included service on the boards of a number of Cincinnati community organizations, including Chair of Cedar Village and Campaign Chair of the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. A native of Cincinnati, Lerner is a graduate of Walnut Hills High School. He earned a B.S. degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a M.B.A. from the University of Cincinnati. He and his wife, Mimi Kuby Lerner, have three children, Andrew, Karen, and Julie, and are the grandparents of Natasha and Louis Nicholas Lerner and Kyle, Nina, Bryan, and Sadie Javello.
