 HUC-JIR/Jerusalem Co-sponsors International Conference on Franz Rosenzweig's Philosophy An international conference about the philosophy of Franz Rosenzweig was recently organized by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, The International Franz Rosenzweig Society (IRG) and The Schechter Institute for Jewish Studies, in cooporation with the Franz Rosenzweig Minervah Research Center for German-Jewish Literature and Cultural History of the Hebrew University, The Center for the Study of Jewish Culture at Haifa University, and The Leo Baeck Institute/Jerusalem. Held from September 17th-20th, the conference took place at HUC-JIR's Jerusalem campus and was organized by Professor Yehoyada Amir, Director of the Israel Rabbinical Program at HUC-JIR/Jerusalem and a member of the IRG's presidium, and Dr. Joseph Turner from the Schechter Institute. Forty-seven scholars from three continents and 7 countries gathered in Jerusalem for 4 days in order to discuss and explore a wide range of issues concerning the pjilosophy of one of the most prominant twentieth-century Jewish philosophers. Academic questions as well of questions of Rosenzweig's relevancy to current Jewish existence and being were thoroughly discussed. Among the scholars who presented at the conference, were several members of the HUC-JIR faculty: Dr. Amir, who chaired the opening plenary session, lectured on "Das Buchlein as a Prolegomena," and presented closing remarks, and Dr. Jonathan Cohen, Director of the HUC-UC Ethics Center at HUC-JIR/Cincinnati, who spoke on "Liberation or Limitation?
