 The Running Rabbis Are At It Again This November 5, HUC-JIR graduates, Rabbi Benjamin David and Rabbi Scott Weiner will be among the 37,000 taking part in the annual New York City Marathon. The rabbis, who seek to teach and move others both within the synagogue and well beyond it, will run this year's race as part of Team for Kids, an organization that provides at-risk NYC youth with physical education opportunities and mentoring. Last year, in running the marathon, they raised valuable funds for the HUC Soup Kitchen. With their help, their congregants are learning that there are indeed various ways of bettering the world, that social action can take many shapes, and that each of us has the ability to go great distances in inspiring others and bringing out the best in ourselves in the process. Rabbi David, 29, is Assistant Rabbi at Temple Sinai in Roslyn Heights, New York. He and his wife Lisa live in Forest Hills, Queens. This will be his fifth marathon. Rabbi Weiner, 31, is the Rabbi at the Hebrew Tabernacle in Washington Heights. He and his wife Limor live in Hillsdale, New Jersey. This will be his third marathon.
