2005-06 CCAR-HUC-JIR Joint Commission for Sustaining Rabbinic Education - Continuing Education Programs

The CCAR-HUC-JIR Joint Commission for Sustaining Rabbinic Education creates continuing study opportunities in a variety of on-site and on-line modes. This year's spring on-site program, Kinnus Bogrim, taking place March 19-21, 2006, is a two-day opportunity for all HUC-JIR Alumni to study at our HUC-JIR New York campus. In partnership with the HUC-JIR Department of Distance Education, the Joint Commission will o.er three on-line courses: two teleconference Mini-Courses in the fall and our popular seven-week Se.rah program in the spring.

Seeing it Their Way:
Egypt to Sinai through the Eyes of the Medieval Interpreters
Our popular seven-week Se.rah Study will examine how the mefarshim approach our sacred writings. With carefully selected texts, we will journey from Egypt to the Promised Land unpacking commentaries which highlight each parshan's particular methodological approach. Join as colleagues respond to study questions in chevruta and online discussion. Parshanim will include: Rashi, Rashban, Ibn Ezra, Ramban, Rambam and the Zohar.

(Re)entering the Yamim Noraim through the Talmud and (Re)entering the Talmud through the Yamim Noraim
Many of us began our study of Talmud with holiday-related passages, only to discover the wide gaps between ancient and contemporary approaches to the High Holidays.
Join us as we explore Talmudic material on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and glean insights from our classic texts as we prepare for the Yamim Noraim with an emphasis on 'beginning' and 'returning'.
