Sara Crown Star Inducted onto the Board of Governors of
Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion
Sara Crown Star was inducted as a member of the Board of Governors of Hebrew
Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion by Burton Lehman, Chair of
the Board of Governors, and Rabbi David Ellenson, President of HUC-JIR.
“Sara Crown Star is a catalytic leader for education, healthcare, and
cultural causes. We look forward to her expertise as we advance HUC-JIR’s
planning for the future,” stated Rabbi David Ellenson.
Star is an attorney at Henry Crown and Co. in Chicago, Illinois. Previously,
she was associated with the firms D’Ancona & Pflaum and Gould &
Ratner. Star specializes in real estate and estate planning. She graduated from
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received her law degree
from Georgetown University Law Center.
Star has been and is currently involved in extensive community and public service
activities. She is a Trustee and Executive Committee Member of The Erikson Institute
as well as Board Member for The Arie and Ida Crown Memorial, as well as a lobbyist
for the National Bladder Foundation and International Bladder Symposium in Washington,
DC. Star’s past activities most notably include initiator and promoter
for creation and funding of groundbreaking medical research at the Children’s
Hospital of Harvard Medical School as well as Founding Member of the University
of Illinois Craniofacial Center Advisory Board. Her leadership has extended
to the Special Olympics, The American Heart Association, and The Joffrey Ballet
of Chicago. She is currently a Trustee for the Jewish Women’s Foundation
of Metropolitan Chicago.
