Lawrence J. Ramer Inducted onto the Board of Governors of
Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion

Lawrence J. Ramer was inducted as a member of the board of Governors of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion by Burton Lehman, Chair of the Board, and Rabbi David Ellenson, President of HUC-JIR.

“Lawrence Ramer’s distinguishes leadership of Jewish communal, civic, and academic institutions is a source of great wisdom and guidance for us as we plan for our future,” stated Rabbi David Ellenson.

Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of National Portland Cement Company in Bradenton, Florida from 1975 until its sale in 1989, Ramer currently serves as Chairman of Ramer Equities, Inc. of Los Angeles, California and Baltimore, Maryland, Chairman of the Board of Scott Paint Company of Sarasota, Florida, as well as Director of Onguard Industries, LLC of Belkamp, Maryland. Until its sale in 1990, Ramer was Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Order of Pacific Coast Cement Corporation of Los Angeles. Mr. Ramer has also been decorated by President Rau of Germany with the Commanders Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in May 2000, in Washington, DC.

Ramer has served as member of the National Board of Governors and the Executive Committee of the American Jewish Committee and Chairman of its Lawrence and Lee Ramer Center for German-Jewish Relations in Berlin, Germany. He has also served on the Board of Trustees for Facing History and Ourselves in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ramer has been active in numerous associations and organizations including United Friends of the Children of Los Angeles assisting foster children where he has served on the Board of Directors, and ORBIS International, a flying eye hospital based in New York City offering modern eye care and surgical techniques to third world countries, where he has served on the Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.

He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) of Valencia, California as well as a member of the Board of Governors and its Executive Committee of The Music Center of Los Angeles. For ten years Ramer served as President and Chairman as well as member of the Board of Directors of the Center Theatre Group of Los Angeles, which manages the Mark Taper Forum and the Ahmanson Theatre at The Music Center in Los Angeles.

Ramer graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Economics and earned a Master’s Degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. He has completed graduate work in International Relations at New York University and received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from Lafayette College in 1992. From 1976-2001 Ramer was a Trustee of Lafayette College in addition to Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1992-2001.
