As a teenage girl was carried out of Bergen-Belsen concentration
camp, a liberating soldier put five pictures in her pocket. He whispered
in her ear “Tell the world.” This story is part of a
Cincinnatian’s testimony in Mapping Our Tears
and is the mandate for the 21st century.
Mapping Our Tears is an innovative and
original educational facility that “tells the world.”
Situated in Cincinnati on the historic Hebrew Union College campus,
The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education invites people of
all ages to hear the voices directly from the people who eye-witnessed
the world-altering events of WWII and the Holocaust.
Mapping Our Tears is the story of people.
It is about people from all walks of life who live in this area.
It is the story of the best that America offers: hope, democracy,
multiculturalism, and an unwavering commitment to fight evil. An
amazingly varied and steady stream of men and women have voluntarily
stepped forward to offer their stories, artifacts, memories and
prized possessions, for one unified purpose: “to tell the
world.”
The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education
at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion is proud to
announce the unveiling of Mapping Our Tears on September 4, 2003.
Located in the Skirball Museum in Mayerson Hall on the HUC-JIR campus,
3101 Clifton Avenue, Mapping Our Tears will be open to the public
Monday through Thursday, and Sunday afternoons. Trained staff and
volunteers among the survivor and WWII veterans will be available
to groups. All groups must be scheduled by contacting the Center
at 513.221.1875 ext 355 or chhe@huc.edu.
If you are interested in becoming a docent, please contact the Center.
