Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s New York School of Education now offers classes in Cherry Hill, NJ. This new program is part of the School of Education’s Gateways for Learning program, offering continuing education in Adult Education and Jewish Family Education leading to certification or a Master of Arts in Jewish Religious Education.

Gateways for Learning is a Continuing Education program for Jews of all ages and backgrounds who are, or wish to become, Jewish Educators. The program, tailored to meet the needs of adult learners, enables participants— working over a period of time, at their own pace, and within a structured program— to explore, assess, develop, and improve their teaching skills, expand their Jewish knowledge; strengthen their Jewish identity; and develop their leadership skills.

The Fall 2003 course offered is:

Changing Faces in the Mirror: The Evolution of the American Jewish Family
Rabbi Richard Address, UAHC, Dept of Jewish Family Concerns

Combining text study, research analysis, and practical application, this course presents the opportunity for focused, on-going study in an area of Jewish concern. The class will explore the following questions:

  • Where did we come from? A look at family in our sacred texts.
  • Where are we today? Current Issues of Family Concerns in today’s American Jewish Community.
  • Where are we going? The evolving roles of synagogues, schools, communities as extended Spiritual Families.

Students can enroll for 3-credits or non-credit. Those who qualify, and who successfully complete the course-work, can apply these credits to a Certificate in Adult Education or Family Education, or to a Master of Arts in Jewish Religious Education.

Registration:
$900 for 3-credits
$320 for non-credit
