John Braunstein Appointed Associate Provost for Enrollment and Planning at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion

Rabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR), has announced the appointment of John Braunstein as HUC-JIR’s Associate Provost for Enrollment and Planning. Starting July 1, 2003, Braunstein will be responsible for all recruitment and admissions activities for HUC-JIR’s professional programs and will assist in recruitment for the graduate programs. He will provide oversight of financial aid activities as well as the work of the registrars, and will be involved in national strategic planning. Rabbi Norman J. Cohen, Provost of HUC-JIR, stated: “We welcome John Braunstein to our national administration. His extensive experience in enrollment management, recruitment, and strategic planning, coupled with wonderful personal qualities will provide the College-Institute with dynamic leadership and innovative recruitment strategies.”

Braunstein brings to HUC-JIR over twenty years’ experience in higher education. He has served as Associate and Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and as Dean of Admissions at Brown University, Oberlin College, Iona College and Franklin & Marshall College. In addition, he has been a senior member of the higher education consulting practices at KPMG Peat Marwick, Coopers & Lybrand, and The Stillwater Group, where his work focused largely on enrollment management, student services, and strategic planning. In this role, Braunstein served many well-known educational institutions, including Brooklyn College, Columbia University, NYU, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford University, Yale University, and The Educational Testing Service.

Braunstein received his B.A. from Brown University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University Business School.
