Temple Beth El, in conjunction with the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion Westchester Associates, presents a lecture by Dr. Eugene Borowitz, renowned Jewish philosopher and theologian. This is the eighth year that scholars of HUC-JIR will be teaching in Westchester as part of the ongoing Westchester Associates cooperative partnership with HUC-JIR’s New York School. The series provides an opportunity for Westchester residents to study locally with renowned scholars.

Dr. Eugene Borowitz was ordained by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and earned doctorate degrees there and at Columbia University. He has served as visiting professor of religion at Columbia University, Princeton University and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, among others, and has received honorary degrees from Lafayette College, Colgate University and Gratz College. He is the dean of American Jewish philosophers and specializes in contemporary Jewish thought and ethics. Dr. Borowitz has taught at HUC-JIR since 1962. He is a prolific author, having written numerous articles and fifteen books. Studies in the Meaning of Judaism, his most recent book, has just been published by the Jewish Publication Society. This JPS Scholar of Distinction volume presents 33 essays by Dr. Borowitz, which explore his views on Jewish theology, education, history, law, ethics, and religious dialogue over the past 50 years.
