New York School of Education announces the start of
Gateways for Learning
Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion's New York School
of Education is launching its Gateways
for Learning Program. Gateways for Learning is for Jews of all
ages and backgrounds who are or wish to become Jewish educators.
The program is tailored to meet the needs of adult learners. Participants
work at their own pace to explore, assess, develop, and improve
their teaching skills, expand their Jewish knowledge, and strengthen
their Jewish identity.
As a program of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion's
New York School of Education, Gateways for Learning offers a comprehensive
and exciting program of study, providing a thorough grounding in
Jewish studies, Hebrew and the theory and practice of Jewish education
through a mixture of formal classroom learning and supervised, experiential
learning.
Situated in New York City, the preeminent laboratory for learning,
surrounded by the resources of major academic institutions, museums,
libraries and cultural centers, the New York School of Education
has unique opportunities for internships, job placements and involvement
with inspired practitioners.
Gateways for Learning offers three options for pursuing training;
each can be a first step towards enrolling in a more intensive graduate
program:
Professional Development: includes conferences, workshops, lectures,
focused discussions, evening courses, and a Summer Institute. There
are no qualifications for enrollment.
Continuing Education: in addition to the offerings of the Professional
Development program, Continuing Education includes credit-bearing
courses. To apply for this program, a student must have an undergraduate
degree, and submit their most recent college transcript.
Certificate Program: A Certificate Program in targeted specialties
is open to students who satisfy the requirements for Continuing
Education and who have worked at least one year in Jewish Education.
Certificates are currently offered in Family Education and Adult
Education. Certificates will be awarded after students complete
18 course credits in Continuing Education, a two-semester placement
in the area of concentration, and an educational project at their
placement. Eligible students have can apply credits toward the M.A.R.E.
degree.
Interested students can begin Gateways for Learning this fall
