The Hebrew Union College Press, now in its 89th year, is devoted to the publication of scholarly books of high quality regardless of sales potential. It specializes in original works and covers the entire spectrum of Jewish studies. Special attention is given to historical monographs and to bilingual editions that present Hebrew or Yiddish texts along with their English translations.

The cover of this catalogue is taken from a women's prayer book in Hebrew and Yiddish by Moses Coutinho, Amsterdam, 1704. The illustration depicts the observance of laws relating to the lighting of Sabbath candles, the taking of challah, and the observance of niddah (marital separation during periods of uterine bleeding). These laws are often referred to as the "three women's commandments."

The publications of the Hebrew Union College Press are distributed by Wayne State University Press, 4809 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, Michigan 48201. To order by phone toll-free, call 800-978-7323.
