Dr. James A. Sanders to Present "What Alexander the Great Did To Us All" Dr. James A. Sanders, the most senior alumnus of the School of Graduate Studies of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, will present "What Alexander the Great Did To Us All" at the next Food for Thought Luncheon Lecture Series. This critical look at how Alexander the Great and his passion for Greek culture have influenced Judaism and Jewish culture will take place at 12:00 noon on November 7, 2001 at the College-Institute, 3101 Clifton Avenue. Dr. James A. Sanders received his Ph.D. in Bible and Ancient Judaism from HUC-JIR and has also earned academic degrees from Vanderbilt University, Acadia University, Glasgow University, and Coe College. He was professor of Intertestamental and Biblical Studies at the School of Theology at Claremont from 1977 to 1997 and has held teaching posts at Union Theological Seminary, Yale Divinity School, and Colgate Rochester Divinity School. Dr. Sanders' scholarly interests bridge the testaments of Christian Scripture with focus on the Prophets, the literature of pre-Christian Judaism, and the New Testament. He has published or edited fifteen books and over 250 scholarly articles. In its twelfth season, Food For Thought features HUC-JIR faculty and scholars who discuss their fields of expertise and recent research with the public.
