Photographs by Lloyd Wolf, Interviews by Paula Ethel Wolfson
A photographic examination of the lives of contemporary American Jewish mothers - from rabbis and congresswomen to artists and scholars - in which Anne Roiphe explains, "whatever the purpose of Jewish existence... Jewish women are essential to the tale."
A part of A Celebration of Jewish Women's Studies.
Living in the Moment: Contemporary Artists Celebrate Jewish Time, an exhibition celebrating the 125th anniversary of HUC-JIR, features the works of 144 international artists and crafts persons who have created contemporary and innovative works of Jewish ceremonial art that sanctify life and spiritual experience. In the context of the millennium this year, this exhibition focuses attention on the Jewish conception of time as experienced through the fulfillment of a cyclical system of daily, weekly and lunar-calendared family and communal moments as well as a linear, messianic conception of time. Commissioned especially for this exhibition, these works are available for acquisition, so that they can enter into the lives of families and communities. |
