INTRODUCTION COURSE OFFERED AT HUC-JIR/CINCINNATI

Rabbi David Komerofsky, Associate Dean of Students, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, will teach a fourteen-week course entitled, "An Introduction to Judaism." The course, offered to Jews and non-Jews who want to enhance their knowledge of Judaism, will begin Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at 7:00 pm in the Bloch Auditorium at the College-Institute. The course is a cooperative effort of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations Department of Outreach and the four Reform Jewish congregations in Cincinnati.

"An Introduction to Judaism" is a hands-on course that introduces beginners to the basics of Jewish thought and practice. The class presents a mix of study, discussion, and practical experiences designed for those interested in exploring a Jewish life for themselves-interfaith couples, non-Jews considering conversion, and Jews looking for adult-level basics. Topics include Jewish holidays and life cycle events, theology and prayer, Israel, history, and Hebrew.

The UAHC Department of Outreach assists those in the process of conversion to Judaism, and their Jewish relatives. Enrollment in this course does not lead to conversion, but many rabbis accept this course as partial fulfillment of conversion requirements. For more information, or to register for the course, contact a local Reform rabbi or the UAHC Regional Office at (888) 692-8242.
