The Jewish Museum in Prague to receive the Dr. Bernard Heller Prize from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in recognition of its contributions to betterment of humanity Who: The Jewish Museum in Prague What: The Dr. Bernard Heller Prize is an international award presented annually to an individual or organization whose work, writings, or research reflects the values and commitment to the betterment of humanity. Initiated in 1990, previous recipients of the $10,000 award include Holocaust historians Serge Klarsfeld and Raul Hilberg, Ambassador Uri Lubrani of Israel (the architect of the airlift rescue of Ethiopian Jewry), Ambassador Dennis Ross, U.N. Ambassador Richard C. Holbrooke, and Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat. Why: For educating Jewish and non-Jewish youth about the Holocaust and the importance of tolerance now and in future generations; for preserving unique historical material documenting centuries of Jewish life in Bohemia and Moravia and documenting the destruction of European Jewry during the Holocaust; for housing one of the most extensive collections of Jewish art, silver, and textiles; and for promoting memory, scholarship, and education.
