Rabbi Sheldon Zimmerman, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, has inducted Norman Gross onto the HUC-JIR Board of Governors. A distinguished communal leader of New York, Mr. Gross is a senior member of Hofheimer Gartlir & Gross, LLP, and active real estate investor. He is a member of the Board of the Fay J. Lindner and Diane Goldberg Foundations and a former Trustee of The Aaron Diamond Foundation. He has served as a member of the Nassau County Charter Revision Commission and of the Nassau County Planning Commission, as the Chairman of the Board of the Education Assistance Center, a major social service agency in Nassau County, and as a member of the Cornell Law School Advisory Council. During his previous tenure on the HUC-JIR Board of Governors, Mr. Gross was intensively involved in the development of the building of the New York School at its present West Fourth Street location and its contractual relationship with New York University. Mr. Gross received the B.A. degree from Hofstra University (1950) and the LL.B. degree from Cornell University (1953), where he was Editor and author of articles for the Cornell Law Quarterly. He and his wife, Barbara Anne Zelfman, are the parents of three children, and are members of The Community Synagogue in Sands Point, Long Island.
