DR. REUVEN FIRESTONE PROMOTED TO PROFESSOR OF MEDIEVAL JEWISH STUDIES WITH TENURE

Dr. Reuven Firestone has been promoted to Professor of Medieval Jewish Studies with tenure beginning July 1, 1998. He has been teaching at the College-Institute since 1993 as Assistant and Associate Professor; previously he was Assistant Professor, Hebrew Language and Literature, and director of Hebrew and Arabic Programs at Boston University.

Dr. Firestone received his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures, Islam and Arabic Literature and was ordained at HUC-JIR/NY in 1982. His newly completed The Origin of Holy War in the Religious Civilization of Islam has been submitted for publication review; his publications include Journeys in Holy Lands: The Evolution of the Abraham-Ishmael Legends in Islamic Exegesis [Albany: SUNY Press, 1990].
