Joy Grenadier Greenberg, a prominent communal leader of Atlanta, GA, was inducted onto the Board of Governors of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) at its meeting on February 13, 2102 in Los Angeles.
Rabbi David Ellenson, HUC-JIR President, stated, “Joy Greenberg has served since 2004 as a devoted member of our Eastern Region Board of Overseers, where she has helped advance the programs of our New York campus. She brings a broad range of expertise and leadership experience from an array of Jewish communal and secular organizations and institutions, and we look forward to her guidance as we strengthen our institution’s mission of training Jewish leaders for North America, Israel, and around the world.”
Greenberg grew up in Memphis, TN, where she worked through her high school and early college years at the Memphis Jewish Community Center. She earned her B.S. degree in Communications, with a minor in art education, from the University of Tennessee.
While residing in New York, where her three children were born, Greenberg worked for Meredith Corporation’s Metropolitan Home magazine and as a docent volunteer in the Education Department of The Museum of Modern Art.
Her communal leadership in Knoxville, TN, during 1989-1994, included serving on the boards and committees of the Jewish Community Center, where she chaired the Preschool Committee and served on the board; Knoxville Jewish Federation; Heska Amuna Synagogue; and the Knoxville Museum of Arts, where she served on the board and worked as a docent volunteer.
In Atlanta, Greenberg is actively involved in Temple Sinai’s Nominating Committee, Adult Education Committee and its Film Series, and the synagogue’s capital campaign. She and her husband, Alan, are philanthropic leaders through their foundation in the Atlanta Jewish Federation and their sponsorship of the annual Independent Living Program of Jewish Family Career and Services. They are supporters of the University of Southern California, Indiana University, and Woodward Academy.
