Between May and August 2012, our Department of Admissions and Recruitment strategically targeted Jewish summer residential camps and conferences to recruit the next generation of Jewish leadership and colleagues.
During that time, we visited 16 residential summer camps (Union for Reform Judaism, Affiliated, and local camps) and went to six conferences, including The Institute for Southern Jewish Life Annual Education Conference, American Conference of Cantors Convention, Hava Nashira, Hillel Institute, and Alpha Epsilon Pi’s 99th Anniversary Convention.
We met more than 250 prospective students throughout the summer with inquiries for all of HUC-JIR’s academic programs – five times the number we met last summer. We spoke with 103 potential applicants at the URJ Camps alone. We partnered with URJ Camping and URJ Camp Directors for strategic planning and communication regarding recruitment efforts and cooperation at camp this summer. At camp, we had the opportunity to connect with College and High School students and promoted the Leadership Programs presented by The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives, in partnership with the URJ, the RAC and NFTY.
It wasn’t the Admissions and Recruitment staff alone that should be applauded for these immense recruitment efforts. More than 500 of our alumni and students volunteered to help represent us at camps and conferences. We are grateful for their enthusiasm and contributions.
We are thrilled about our success and are already planning for next summer. If you know someone with the potential to be a Jewish leader, please let us know! Contact us at huc.edu/admissions or email@example.com.
