HUC-JIR Presents the Founders' Medallion to Betty Jane Lillie, Ph.D.

Rabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, will award Betty Jane Lillie, Ph.D., with the Founders' Medallion at Graduation Ceremonies in Cincinnati on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 7:30 pm at Isaac M. Wise Temple (8329 Ridge Road). Dr. Lillie will be honored for 25 years of scholarly distinction as an alumna of HUC-JIR.

Dr. Lillie earned her B.S.Ed. in Education and her B.A. in Social Studies, English, Philosophy, and Religion at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Mount St. Joseph, OH. She earned an M.A. in Theology and in Biblical Studies from Providence College, Providence, RI.  She earned her Ph.D. from HUC-JIR/Cincinnati in 1982.  Her dissertation topic was “A History of the Scholarship on the Wisdom of Solomon from the Nineteenth Century to Our Time.”

Dr. Lillie currently serves full-time on the faculty of Athenaeum of Ohio/Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary as Professor of Biblical Studies. She has served at Athenaeum of Ohio/Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary since 1982. Dr. Lillie has also taught at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, OH and the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH.  Dr. Lillie’s fields of specialization are Old Testament, Intertestamental Period, and New Testament.

Dr. Lillie has published widely in books and articles, received numerous awards, delivered papers, and presented at workshops throughout Ohio.

Dr. Lillie is a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America, Society for Biblical Literature, Biblical Archaeology Society, Eastern Great Lakes Biblical Society, Council on the Study of Religion, Women’s Center for Theological Studies, and Ohio Humanities Council. She is a member of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.

Dr. Lillie serves on the Board of the Master of Arts in Bible (MAB) Examination Board, Master of Divinity (M. Div.) Examination Board, Master of Arts on Theology  (MAT) Examination Board, Master of Arts in Theology (MAT) Thesis/ Paper Director, Master of Arts in Bible Thesis/Paper Director, and others.

Dr. Lillie is a member of the Clergy Series for Ecumenical/Inter-Faith Dialogue and the Inter-Collegiate Jewish-Christian Dialogue Program.
