Rabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, awarded Rabbi Marc L. Disick with the Doctor of Divinity at Graduation Ceremonies in New York on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York. Rabbi Disick was honored for 25 years of scholarly distinction as an alumnus of HUC-JIR.
Rabbi Marc L. Disick has been teaching since 1978 when as a college student he served on the faculty of Temple Beth Emeth in Albany, NY. He became a Bar Mitzvah with Lubavitch and a rabbi at Reform Judaism’s seminary, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, in 1986. He has been Temple Sinai’s rabbi since 2003. Rabbi Disick’s approach to the pulpit is framed by his extensive training as a pastoral counselor and a deep interest in family systems theory as applied to synagogue life. He proudly serves on Stamford Hospital’s Ethics Committee which regularly wrestles with end-of-life and treatment issues. After nearly 25 years, the pulpit’s demands continue to energize him.
