HUC-JIR Presents Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa, to Judith E. Cohen-Rosenberg

Rabbi David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, awarded Rabbi Judith E. Cohen-Rosenberg with the Doctor of Divinity at Graduation Ceremonies in New York on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York.  Rabbi Cohen-Rosenberg was honored for 25 years of scholarly distinction as an alumna of HUC-JIR.

Rabbi Judith Cohen-Rosenberg has served congregations in upstate and downstate New York.  She is currently in her 19th year as Rabbi of Community Reform Temple of Westbury in central Nassau County.  There, she is involved in every aspect of temple life and is privileged to have seen babies she has named go off to college and B’nai Mitzvah and Confirmands be married.

In addition to teaching and preaching, Rabbi Cohen-Rosenberg is an advocate for people with disabilities, working to ensure that all have access to the synagogue.  She has also been a vocal supporter of comprehensive sex education and marriage equality lobbying in Washington, DC and Albany on these issues.
