Rabbi Reuven Firestone, Professor of Medieval Judaism and Islam at HUC-JIR, will deliver a paper in Ohrid, Republic of Macedonia, at the Second World Conference on Inter-Religious and Inter-Civilizational Dialogue, May 6-9, 2010. This conference is a key part of the United Nations' "Decade of Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation for Peace 2011-2020" (or DECADE), aimed at promoting partnership between UN Member States, UN Agencies, Religious and Spiritual Communities, and Civil Society Organizations to advance the culture of peace. His paper will be, Respect for Religious Rights and Cultural Diversity: The Foundation of peace and prosperity.
Dr. Michael Meyer, the Adolph S. Ochs Professor of Jewish History, HUC-JIR/Cincinnati, will be delivering the keynote lecture on May 7th at Tarbut 2010, this year's Jewish Cultural Congress at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps above Munich. His subject will be "Das deutsch-jüdische Erbe in Amerika" (The German-Jewish Legacy in America). A week later, following the Friday evening service, he will be speaking at the Progressive congregation Bet Simkha in Prague, and then, the following Sunday, will be delivering the keynote for an academic conference at the University of Frankfurt marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Rabbi Abraham Geiger. His subject there will be "Abraham Geiger, der Mensch."
