Leslie Bider was inducted onto the Board of Governors of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) on May 4, 2009 at HUC-JIR’s New York campus.
“Leslie Bider brings a profound understanding of HUC-JIR’s global potential and mission. His entrepreneurial and business expertise as well as his commitment to help heal the world will offer meaningful guidance as we work together to ensure the future of the Reform movement and the Jewish people,” said Rabbi David Ellenson, Ph.D., HUC-JIR President.
Bider most recently served as Chief Strategist of ITU Ventures, a leading Los Angeles-based venture capital firm. Prior to that, he served as Chairman and CEO of Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Time Warner, Inc.
In 1981, after founding and managing Bider & Montgomery, an accounting practice that serviced the media and entertainment industry, Bider joined Warner Bros. Music as its Chief Financial Officer, where he was responsible for all worldwide operations and was a critical driver of the company's global expansion, including the acquisition of the 20th Century Fox Music catalog. From 1987 until 2005, Bider played a significant role in the establishment of Warner/Chappell Music through the merger of Warner Bros. Music with the Chappell and Intersong Music Group. During the time he presided over Warner/Chappell as the Chairman and CEO, the company grew from a $30 million a year business to one generating over half a billion dollars a year.
In addition to his corporate duties, Bider serves on the boards of several publicly-traded companies including Douglas Emmett Inc., OSI Systems, Inc., California Pizza Kitchens Inc., and 1st Century Bank, N.A. He is a recipient of the Abe Oleman Publishers Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In addition to his service to HUC-JIR, Bider is actively involved with many other not-for-profit organizations including the MusiCares Foundation, Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program, and the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts. Bider received his Masters degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Southern California. He is a member of Steven S. Wise Temple in Los Angeles.
HUC-JIR’s Board of Governors, comprised of distinguished communal and civic leaders and HUC-JIR alumni, is invested with the governance of the College-Institute’s four campuses in Cincinnati, Jerusalem, Los Angeles, and New York.
