Travels In American Jewish History: A Study Kallah to Historic Albuquerque, NM Co-Sponsored by the UAHC and The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives April 24-28, 2002 This unique programs offers participants the opportunity to travel to historic Albuquerque in order to examine its particular Jewish heritage while studying with the foremost scholars of American Jewish History and the history of the Southwestern United States: Dr. Kenneth Libo Co-author of World of Our Fathers and How We Lived There Too: A History of Immigrant Jews in America Dr. Gary P. Zola Executive Director of The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives & Assistant Professor of the American Jewish Experience at the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion Dr. Stanley Hordes An expert in the Crypto-Jewish Community in the Southwest. Assumed the position of State Historian for the State of New Mexico in Santa Fe in 1981 and has served on the New Mexico Commission of Public Records since 1996. Dr. Hordes obtained his Ph.D. from Tulane University in 1980. His doctoral dissertation "The Crypto-Jewish Community of New Spain, 1620-1649: A Collective Biography," was based on research conducted in the archives of Mexico and Spain, and was supported by a Fulbright dissertation fellowship. The Program: Visit historic Temple Albert Explore first-hand some of the New Mexico's first Jewish settlers in the cities of Santa Fe and Las Vegas, New Mexico. Take a "Jewish" walking tour of Santa Fe Visit the historic sites of Albuquerque including the Acomo Pueble, Route 66, Historic Old Town and Sandia Peak. Accommodations: Accommodations for the Study Mission will be at the Crown Plaza Pyramid Hotel, centrally located in the heart of Albuquerque just minutes from the airport, Convention Center, Olde Town and Sandia Peak. The hotel features a fully staffed business center, gift shop, exercise room and indoor/outdoor pool. Tour Prices: All tour costs are per person and based on an average group size of forty or more. Tour prices include hotel, continental breakfast, and lunch each day, three dinners, and sightseeing. The cost of transportation to Albuquerque is the responsibility of each individual. The cost is $850 per person based on double occupancy. An additional fee of $200 is added for those who wish to have single occupancy.
