Thank You for Another Great Summer of Recruitment!

Monday, August 15, 2016

With much gratitude to our alumni for their partnership and mentoring, the National Office of Recruitment and Admissions had extremely fruitful spring and summer seasons of recruitment and admissions.

During Summer 2016, the HUC-JIR Recruitment Team taught, mentored, and spoke to nearly 6,000 young people about their future as a Jewish leader at nearly 50 summer camps and programs throughout North America and Israel. In Summer 2015, recruitment presentations and meetings directly engaged over 3,500 prospective students, an exponential increase over previous years.

We achieved a 57% increase in enrollment in the rabbinical school between June 2015 and June 2016.  In July 2016, HUC-JIR accepted and enrolled the largest rabbinical school class in six years, and the second largest in ten years.  These numbers exceed the five-year goal scenarios. These achievements are even more significant given the reverse trends in the field overall.

We have also achieved a dramatic increase in the number, quality, and management of inquiries for all HUC-JIR programs. The increase in inquiries grew from 663 in 2013 to 2,365 in 2016.

In addition, there was a significant increase in high school students participating in leadership seminars on the Cincinnati campus. Want to nominate a student for these highly subsidized leadership weekends? In 2015-2016, more than 250 high school students attended programs on the Cincinnati campus-- more than double the number in previous years. We also launched many new recruitment programs including a first-ever National Non-denominational Teen Spirituality Retreat.

We have also increased the number of new college-aged inquiries to programs of study beginning in 2016-2020 by 500. Want to nominate a college student for these highly subsidized leadership weekends?

HUC-JIR Provost Rabbi Michael Marmur, Ph.D., and Rabbi Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi, Ph.D., gave the Alumni Recruitment Recognition Award to the following three colleagues at the Alumni Day on July 9th: Rabbi Sigma (Sissy) Coran, Rabbi James Gibson, and Rabbi Howard Jaffe. These alumni join an elite group who received the award at the URJ Biennial last November and at the CCAR Convention in March 2016.

Thank you to you, our alumni, for all you do to help create a vibrant Jewish future!
